 Honestly clueless with how and what the book is going to be about, I started to read.  Then I realized… oh, it’s not going to be about Seymour – who’s life as a vampire just started.

The LaSt Vampire 6: Creatures of Forever begins with another “before” note – Sita introducing who she is and has happened the past few books. She was with Seymour on a bar and was recognizing how she can hear everyone’s thoughts because of the power in Kalika’s blood. Seymour was flirting with a girl called Heidi and Sita, just getting to know her next victim.

The story was reversed when Sita found out that her victim is deliberately bringing her to a  trap and who else was the mastermind but Heidi who has Seymour hostage.  With some action and brief conversation Sita found out that Heidi and her group requires Sita to take part in that group, share her blood and use Seymour as sacrifice.  She managed to kill Heidi but that was just the beginning.

I am most thankful that I started reading the Last Vampire series after it has been completed. Finding the “To be continued” note has been frustrating for me, what more if I had to look forward for the next book after a year or two. Pike was simply successful in conveying the feeling of suspense, action and mystery that you have no choice but to be curious of what was to come.

The Last Vampire 5 – Evil Thirst opens with an overview, a sort of “previously” note which would help readers carry on with the story without having to re-read the previous books.  But since I’ve written the past 4 reviews recently, I will proceed with the story.

Sita (or Alisa) knew that she had to destroy Kalika but she has a lot of doubts and questions, mostly about her faith and about her life – if you call vampire living a life.  She wonders why Kalika said that knowing will cost her, who is Paula’s child as it gave Seymour his life back and “how” exactly can she kill the incarnate of evil – of she who destroys.

Note: Since Seymour is now the only one who knew of Alisa Perne from the previous 3 books, Alisa will now be referred to as Sita, which is Alisa’s real name. A name she reveals only to those dear to her.

The Last Vampire – Phantom opened with a pounding on the door from a voice that Sita doesn’t recognize. Realization was slow but she was able to piece it together, she was now human and was vulnerable. She didn’t open the door and later called Seymour whom she has to rely on a bit for “tips on being human.” However, Sita seems to be a penchant for trouble for even if she doesn’t go out at night to feed, she found herself killing for her survival.

And then she met Ray Riley.

One of the good things about Pike’s The Last Vampire Series is a brief introduction in the beginning. This was how The Last Vampire 3: Red Dice started.

FBI Special Agent Joel Drake did his duty and his files on Eddie Fender must have triggered off the police to come to Eddie’s place. Alisa has her share of that fact too, after scaring off officers from the previous book, the police thinks they have something monstrous inside the house. The place was surrounded but Alisa is convinced of burning the house so as to make sure there won’t be any repeat of Eddie Fender’s craze.

A bit due to Joel’s persuasion, they both got themselves in an armored vehicle followed by an army of police cars and a chopper. The vehicle was supposed to bring them to C-Fourteen, a government-run high security-facility and the orders were specific, that under no circumstances were they be allowed to escape. But Alisa and Joel, did. Well at least, they tried. The action here was amazing. In the end of the first chapter, the helicopter where Alisa was in exploded from the rocket that reached it and together with the wreckage, she fell into the lake, dead once again.

The Last Vampire 2: Black Blood stated from where the first book left off, from Alisa’s death wish, which wasn’t granted for she survived that night and lived forward with Ray. Ray however, was adjusting and refuses to feed properly and was living off from Alisa’s blood. After losing Yaksha, Alisa was determined that she and Ray was the last living vampires in the world, that is if you call being a vampire as alive.

Incidentally, strange killings started to happen at Los Angeles and Alisa thinks that these killings appear to have been caused by careless/new vampires which confuses her, knowing that Yaksha has been blown to pieces and that there are no more existing vampires to her knowledge. Yaksha supposedly should have killed them all.

The Last Vampire is quite literally, the story of supposedly, the last vampire, Alisa Perne. It is written in the first person, described as a personal account of Alisa Perne herself.

The story opens with Alisa’s visit to Michael Riley, a private detective, who seemed to have uncovered a lot of information about Alisa’s assets. Mr. Riley was thinking of blackmailing Alisa but unfortunately met his death when he refused to accept Alisa’s million dollar offer.

Fearing that her identity is compromised and thinking that someone may be on to her trail or vampire nature, Alisa befriends Mr. Riley’s son, Ray, who happens to remind her of her human life.

It’s impossible not to see any vampire book in a bookstore these days. Since Twilight, it seems like vampires are the most “in” thing. With the recent “chika” to have re-runs of New Moon, I can’t help but feel suffocated of vampire literature even though I love vampire stories.

I think I didn’t have much of a choice because a vampire book has caught my eye for the past month or so. It’s called “Thirst” by Christopher Pike – was described as an omnibus, now on its second book on the series of I don’t know how many.

Christopher Pike was one of the authors I cater to back in high school. I read many of his books and this made me want to read him again. The next few book titles are reviews of The Last Vampire Series.
